The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has issued a final opinion on the safety of aluminium in cosmetic products, with submission IV. The committee adopted the document during its plenary meeting on 27 March 2024.The SCCS also considers that aluminium in talc is not bioavailable, meaning that talc with an aluminium content of up to 2% may be used in cosmetic products. However, the committee has no further scientific concerns regarding the use of relevant aluminium compounds in cosmetic products taking into account the newly submitted information. The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has issued a report on the safety of aluminium in cosmetic products, focusing on the potential risks associated with its use. The report states that due to the lack of adequate data on dermal penetration to estimate the internal dose of aluminium following cosmetic uses, risk assessment cannot be performed. Therefore, internal exposure to aluminium after skin application should be determined using a human exposure study under use conditions.
