DEAS 1144: 2023, Baby toilet soap - Specification

News Date
May 9, 2023

The specifications, sampling, and testing procedures for baby toilet soap are outlined in this Draft East African Standard.
Due to its unsaturated nature and the potential for skin irritation, rosin has not been approved for use in this specification, unlike regular toilet soap. A higher limit for total fatty matter (76%) and lower limits for free caustic and free carbonated alkali, as well as lower limits for heavy metals including nickel, copper, iron, lead, mercury, and arsenic, have all been proposed based on similar considerations.
Basic prerequisites include Baby toilet soap must not have an unpleasant odor and be lightly perfumed or unscented.
Baby toilet soap must be packaged to prevent damage and excessive moisture gain or loss.
The following information must be legibly and permanently written on each box in English and/or any other official language (such as French, Kiswahili, etc.) used in the East African partner state that is importing it:
• The brand name of the goods, such as "baby soap" or "baby toilet soap," as well as the Company's physical location.
• Code or batch number
• Nation of origin, net content, and manufacturing date of the list of components
• Date of expiration and warning or safety precaution
