Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) was a part of the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy, this study was conducted.

It investigates whether or not the UK could make rules about impurities like antimony, arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury that are almost impossible to avoid. It includes a review of the research on the topic and the results of tests on 91 cosmetics bought from stores in person and online.

This study offers the following major results:

1. A review of various techniques for figuring out the trace amounts of antimony, arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury in various cosmetic goods.
2. A trusted way to gauge how much of these components are present in cosmetics.
3. A look at action boundaries and the methods other jurisdictions used to get them.

To fulfil their obligations in showing the safety of cosmetic products with respect to such contaminants through the cosmetic product safety report, manufacturers of cosmetic products for the UK market should always be aware of trace contamination.
